This tour explores the range of cuisine of the Piedmont from home cooks and restaurants.
We will visit the birthplace of the Slow Food movement and dine in restaurants that explore the cuisine of the region and the season.

Truffles
The Alba white truffle is called the Magnum Pico and it only grows in very specific places and can sell for more than $2,500 a pound. Once the truffle comes out of the ground it has a life span of 5 days to a week. We know a couple of truffle hunters, but more importantly, we know the people who know the guys who don't bother selling in the market because, well, because they are truffle hunters. Restaurants are their key clients, and we know where to go for the best the season has to offer.
What to expect
Every day will include at least one field trip to a local food purveyor (cheese, chocolate, flour and polenta mill, risotto, salami, honey, etc.), market, or historic site.

In addition each day we will have a wine tasting or winery tour.

Depending on the season we may
learn how to evaluate truffles, explore the Slow Food wine bank, wander the Alba truffle market and go on a truffle hunt.


Wine
Nebbiolo is one of the few grapes that expresses the microclimate, or terroir where it is grown. This tour will take you and your palate through Barolo, Barbaresco and Roero as well as some of the lesser known, but no less interesting wines, Barbera, Grignolino, Dolcetto and Pelaverga.

We will tour wineries small and large in Barolo, Barbaresco and the Monferrato and Roero regions.
